Forward Deployed Engineer

Indigo builds HQ— the team AI operating system. We're looking for a forward deployed engineer to embed with the teams adopting HQ, turn their real workflows into living infrastructure, and make the product indispensable.

What you'll do

Deploy HQ where the work actually happens.

You'll sit with the teams putting HQ to work — learn how they actually operate, then build the workers, skills, policies, and knowledge that turn their messiest workflows into infrastructure that runs itself. You own the loop end to end: from an ambiguous business problem to a shipped, working automation the team relies on. You're the bridge between what a customer needs and everything HQ can do.

  • Embed with a customer team and map the workflows worth automating.
  • Build in HQ — stand up the workers, skills, and integrations that make it real.
  • Stay until it sticks — train operators, watch it run, close the gaps.
  • Feed the product — bring what you learn in the field back to how HQ gets built.

HQ is our own operating system — every team at Indigo runs on it. We prefer candidates who've used HQ, so tell us about your experience with it in your application. If you haven't used it but you're a sharp engineer who picks up new systems fast, we still want to hear from you.

What we're looking for

  • Smart and a fast learner. You walk into unfamiliar systems and get productive quickly.
  • Genuinely technical. Comfortable in a terminal, can script and build, fluent with AI tooling.
  • An exceptional communicator. Clear and sharp in writing; calm and credible in front of a customer.
  • A structured, first-principles thinker. You break ambiguous problems into things that can ship.
  • A self-starter who owns the outcome. You don't wait to be told what the next step is.
  • 4+ hours of daily overlap with US hours. So we can work together day to day.

Strong plus

A management consulting background.

The job is half engineering, half client work — scoping a customer's real problem, structuring the path to a solution, and earning trust while you build it. If you've done time in management consulting (MBB, Big-4, or a sharp boutique) and can also build, that combination is exactly what we're after. Tell us about it in your application.

Nice to have

Bonus points for

  • Prior forward-deployed, solutions, or implementation engineering
  • 0-to-1 startup experience — comfort with constant change
  • Standing up internal tooling, automation, or data plumbing
  • Hands-on experience with HQ or agentic AI workflows
  • A track record of making things meaningfully better than you found them
